Day 1: Addis Ababa–Gondar – Simien Mountains
Take a short morning flight from Addis Ababa to the historic city of Gondar, warmly welcomed by its rich heritage. From Gondar, drive to Debark, the gateway to Simien Mountains National Park. Here, you will arrange entrance permits, meet your park scouts, and enjoy tea or coffee before heading into the mountains. Continue driving to Michibign, where your trek begins with an introductory walk across the mountain plateau—far from the cliff edges—leading you to your first campsite at Sankaber. Enjoy a peaceful overnight stay amid the breathtaking landscape.
Day 2: Trek from Sankaber to Gich (Approx. 5–6 hours)
Follow the northern escarpment eastwards, descending briefly into the lush Kaba Valley before ascending toward the dramatic Gich Abyss. Along the way, traverse a narrow ridge with stunning views of the Simien foothills and encounter a magnificent waterfall where the Jinbar River plunges over 500 meters into the abyss below. Stop for lunch by the river while keeping an eye out for rare birds such as the lammergeyer and thick-billed raven. In the afternoon, hike up to Kedadit to enjoy a spectacular sunset and panoramic views of the shaded landscapes before returning to camp for dinner.
Day 3: Trek from Gich to Imet Gogo and Aynameda (Approx. 2–3 hours)
From Gich, stroll through vast fields of Giant Lobelia as you approach the towering cliffs of Imet Gogo (3,926 m). Take time to soak in the breathtaking views over mountain valleys and surreal volcanic domes in the distance. Descend into the Jinbar River Valley for a fresh perspective on the rugged volcanic landscape, where it seems like chunks of the mountains have been blown away. Follow the escarpment edge, towering vertically hundreds of meters below, walking through fields of Erica Arborea and grassy paths until you reach Aynameda. Here, your vehicle awaits to drive you back to Gondar for an overnight stay. This marks the end of your unforgettable trek.
