6-Day Bale Mountains National Park Itinerary
Day 1: Addis Ababa – Bale Mountains National Park
Drive from Addis to Bale Mountains National Park. Arrive at park headquarters in the afternoon and enjoy a gentle hike, spotting endemic mammals like Mountain Nyala and Menelik’s Bushbuck, along with unique birds such as Blue-Winged Goose and Wattled Ibis. Overnight camping at Dinsho (3,200 m).
Day 2: Dinsho – Adelay Campsite
Trek via Geysay Valley and Web River, visiting Web waterfall. Expect sightings of Mountain Nyala, Bohor Reedbuck, and diverse birds including Chestnut-naped Francolin and Abyssinian Catbird. Overnight camping at Adelay (3,400 m).
Day 3: Adelay – Finch Habera Campsite
Trek through Web Valley, resting at scenic Habera waterfall. Spot rock hyrax near the gorge and raptors like Tawny Eagle and Augur Buzzard. Overnight camping Finch Habera (3,550 m).
Day 4: Finch Habera – Wasama Campsite
Trek to Wasama through Mararo Valley, home to Lammergeyer and Verraux Eagles. Begin search for the rare Ethiopian Wolf, Africa’s most endangered carnivore. Overnight camping Wasama (3,700 m).
Day 5: Wasama – Gebre Guracha Campsite
Ascend Mt. Wasama (4,200 m), then descend into Worgona Valley with chances to see falcons and Ethiopian Wolves. Camp near Lake Gebre Guracha (Black Lake). Overnight camping (3,900 m).
Day 6: Gebre Guracha – Addis Ababa
Short trek to Sanetti Plateau to meet vehicles. Drive back to Addis Ababa. Enjoy a traditional dinner with Ethiopian music and dance before transfer to airport or hotel.
