9-Days Northern Historical Route

Day 1: Arrival in Addis Ababa
Meet upon arrival and transfer to hotel. Afternoon city tour: National Museum (home of Lucy), Holy Trinity Cathedral, Mount Entoto, and Merkato Market.
Overnight: Addis Ababa

Day 2: Addis – Debre Markos
Drive north to Debre Markos via the 13th-century Debre Libanos Monastery and the Portuguese Bridge. Enjoy views of the Blue Nile Gorge and visit Oromo villages.
Overnight: Debre Markos

Day 3: Debre Markos – Bahir Dar
Continue to Bahir Dar through scenic landscapes and Amhara villages. Afternoon city tour including local markets and Mount Bezawit for panoramic views.
Overnight: Bahir Dar

Day 4: Bahir Dar – Blue Nile Falls
Morning excursion to the Blue Nile Falls, followed by a rural walk. Afternoon market visit and cultural immersion in town.
Overnight: Bahir Dar

Day 5: Bahir Dar – Gondar
Drive to Gondar, the Camelot of Africa. Visit castles of Emperor Fasilides, Fasil’s Bath, and Debre Berhan Selassie Church with its iconic ceiling murals.
Overnight: Gondar

Day 6: Gondar – Simien Mountains
Drive to Debark and enter Simien Mountains National Park. Enjoy the dramatic scenery, spot Gelada baboons and Lammergeyers.
Overnight: Simien Lodge (3,200m)

Day 7: Simien – Axum
A long but scenic drive to Axum via the breathtaking Tekeze Gorge and highland farmlands. Marvel at the change in terrain and traditional mountain life.
Overnight: Axum

Day 8: Explore Axum
Full-day tour of Axum’s archaeological treasures: ancient stelae, Queen of Sheba’s palace, King Kaleb’s tomb, and the Church of St. Mary of Zion — home to the Ark of the Covenant.
Overnight: Axum

Day 9: Fly Axum – Addis Ababa
Morning flight to Addis. End of tour.
