Day 1: Flight to Gondar – Castles & Culture
Begin your adventure with a scenic morning flight from Addis Ababa to Gondar, the Camelot of Africa. Upon arrival, explore the historic Fasil Ghebbi (Royal Enclosure), a UNESCO World Heritage Site filled with 17th-century castles and royal buildings. Then visit the iconic Church of Debre Birhan Selassie, renowned for its stunning ceiling of angelic faces. After a rich cultural day, relax and unwind at Haile Resort Gondar for an overnight stay.
Day 2: Gondar to Simien Mountains – Welcome to the Wilderness
After breakfast, drive from Gondar to Debark via a breathtaking gravel road that winds through the highlands. In Debark, we’ll arrange park entry permits and pick up our professional scouts. From there, continue deep into the Simien Mountains National Park, arriving at the scenic Sankaber campsite. Enjoy your first taste of the highland wilderness, spotting endemic wildlife such as Gelada baboons and bushbucks along the dramatic escarpments. Overnight camping at Sankaber.
Day 3: Trek to Embuay – Waterfalls & Highland Life
Rise with the sun for a rewarding trek from Sankaber to the stunning Jinbar Waterfall, plunging into a deep gorge below. After soaking in the views, ascend towards a dirt road and turn toward Shema Matebeya, a peaceful highland village known for its natural laundry basins used by locals. Continue through picturesque meadows and highland plateaus before reaching Embuay for an overnight camping experience under the stars.
Day 4: Trek to Gota Dngay – The Hidden Gem
Today’s trail takes you to the breathtaking viewpoint of Gota Dngay, a lesser-known but absolutely majestic destination. Surrounded by dramatic cliffs and panoramic landscapes, Gota Dngay offers a truly unforgettable wilderness experience. Enjoy a quiet evening soaking in the serenity of the Simien Mountains. Overnight camping at Gota Dngay.
Day 5: Descent to Kaba Valley – Farewell to the Highlands
After breakfast, begin your descent to the beautiful Kaba Valley where your driver will be waiting. Take in the final views of the Simien Mountains before we conclude the journey. This marks the end of your memorable Twsta Trails adventure until next time!
