A timeless origin tale

Kaldi — The Legend Behind Coffee’s Discovery

The story of coffee begins with Kaldi, an Ethiopian shepherd whose curiosity changed the world. While tending his goats in the highlands of Kaffa, Kaldi noticed his animals dancing energetically after eating bright red berries from a mysterious shrub.

Intrigued, he tasted the berries and felt an extraordinary burst of energy and alertness. From Ethiopia’s mountains the habit of brewing coffee spread across the Arabian Peninsula and then the world — each cup a small tribute to Kaldi’s discovery.

Kaldi’s brew — a simple tribute
  1. Use 20g freshly roasted Arabica beans (medium-dark).
  2. Grind medium-fine and brew with 300ml water at 92–96°C.
  3. Sip slowly, and remember the dancing goats.
